I take my sleep very seriously. As I’ve developed a deeper connection to my body, it has become clear to me how important sleep is for my inner balance and healing.
Most nights I go to bed before midnight. Each hour of sleep before midnight is equivalent to two hours of sleep after midnight.
The body goes into a deep healing mode while we sleep. Our growth hormones peak around 2am, and at that point the body starts creating new cells. The organs are rebalanced and the skin rejuvenated.
Beauty sleep isn’t a myth, you are actually recreated while you sleep.
The nights where I’m out dancing or hanging out with friends, this pre-midnight rule, doesn’t apply. Fun and movement in the middle of the night can be liberating and deeply healing. Again, here it is about the fine balance.
Regardless of the time, I always follow my little evening ritual when I go to bed:
1. Brush teeth
2. Wash face, feet and hands
3. Jump into my silky nightwear
4. Kiss my husband and dog
5. Jump into bed with my favorite book and then read a little
6. Find my beautiful lavender eye mask and put in the soft earplugs, before I turn off the night lamp.
I love eye masks from Aroma Home. They are super soft and filled with lavender, which calms the senses and ensure that you don’t wake up with puffy eyes the following morning.
My favorite earplugs are the soft silicone plugs from Macks.
7. Stroke and hug myself. My arms, stomach and thighs get loving strokes. And if I feel like it, I’ll gently massage my lymph nodes. It opens up the flow in the body.
8. Breath deeply, relax and fall asleep. Ahhh.
I am a big fan of eye masks and earplugs. Both elements help me get into a deeper sleep, and I then wake up restored and very balanced the following morning. It feels great.
