Lately I’ve reconnected with old passions and discovered new ones. I’ve been taking voice lessons, dancing ballet with a private instructor, doing agility classes with my dog and ballroom dancing with a partner.
I’ve put myself into vulnerable situations and learned so much that I started journaling in order to process it all. It has been and continues to be a beautiful process.
Often when we want to learn new things or improve on the things we’re already doing, we are under pressure. We have to install new memories and do things in a different way. It can be really fun and it can be really scary, depending on our internal programming.
What happens when we’re under pressure is that both our strengths and imbalances are plain to see. In that situation we have a chance to really get to know ourselves.
Getting into new things, isn’t just about writing the book, dancing the dance, singing the song—it is as much about who we are, and how much we allow ourselves to be who we are.
I’ve claimed new territories and I opened rooms inside of myself that I didn’t even know I had closed.
And what I got to understand on a deeper level is that we really can’t think our way to flow. By instead following our impulses and intuition, we can open up to the hidden rooms and allow for a magical healing to happen. From there springs pure joy and passion.
It requires, though, that we are willing to show up and actually take the class, arrange the party, hire the mentor, write the book, or whatever the case may be.
I have been such a perfectionist for years, that I wouldn’t even try things where there were risk and vulnerability involved. It is such a relief to finally allow myself to explore and follow my heart.
There is so much to learn about ourselves when we dare to listen to our desires and leave the comfort zone for a while, with as much love as possible.
